Box Score After splitting the first two sets of Saturday's Sunshine State Conference match, Saint Leo established early leads in sets three and four, never trailed and downed the Moccasins in four sets, 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 25-19, at Saint Leo.
The loss dropped the Moccasins' record to 9-3 overall, 2-2 in the SSC. Saint Leo improved to 8-5, 4-1 in the SSC.
Sets one and two were virtual mirror images of each other. In set one, the Moccasins had pulled even at 19-19 only to have the Lions go on a 6-1 run to close out the set. In set two, the teams were even at 18-18 when the Moccasins closed out the set with seven straight points.
Saint Leo took command early in sets three and four, however, building 9-3 leads in each one and the Moccasins were unable to get any closer than four points the rest of the way.
FSC played without senior starter Kelly Sherman, who was sidelined with a back injury. Erin Callahan started in Sherman's place and delivered seven kills, while Lauren Huber led the Moccasins with eight kills and Ashley Martin also picked up seven kills. Anna Niebuhr led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
Bruna Rocha led Saint Leo with 16 kills and 18 digs.
The Moccasins step outside of SSC action Monday for an afternoon match in Pensacola against West Florida (9-4) at 3 p.m. (CT).
