Box Score 2 The Moccasins picked up two more wins Saturday in the Holiday Inn South Classic at Jenkins Field House to start the 2010 season with a 4-0 record.
They topped Montevallo, 25-19, 17-25, 25-20, 25-13, in Saturday's first contest, then closed out the event with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 win over Missouri University of Science & Technology.
Against Montevallo, the Moccasins were led by Ashley Martin and Diana Castrillon, who had 10 kills each. Kelly Sherman, Lauren Huber and Natalie Arvizu each added eight kills. Castrillon also had 11 digs to record her first double-double as a Moccasin and Anna Niebuhr led the team with 19 digs.
Against Missouri S&T, Martin led a trio of players with double figure kills with 12 and hit .500 for the match. Huber had 11 kills and hit .625 with Anne Pietkiewicz adding 10 kills. Niebuhr led the defensive effort with 16 digs.
Martin and Niebuhr were FSC's representatives on the All-Classic Team selected by the participating coaches. They were joined by Chelsea Gibson and Alex Woolsey of Angelo State, Samantha Klump of Missouri S&T and Ashley Jurgensmeyer of Southwest Baptist.
The Moccasins travel to Savannah, Ga., next Friday and Saturday for four matches in the Armstrong Atlantic Classic. Friday they'll play West Georgia at 2:30 p.m. and North Alabama at 7 p.m. Saturday they will take on Augusta State at 10 a.m. and Armstrong Atlantic at 4:30 p.m.
