Second Half Goal Downs Mocs

Lynn got a second half goal to defeat Florida Southern 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Barnett Field. With the win the Fighting Knights improve to 8-4-1 and 3-3 in the SSC, while the Mocs fall to 7-5-1 and 2-3-1 in conference play.

Florida Southern outshot the Knights 12-7 in the first half, but couldn’t convert on its opportunities. The best chance came in the 10th minute, when the Mocs caught Lynn goalie Stephanie Dolan out of position and crossed the ball to Adi Alvarado for the shot, but Megan Rodwell came up with the team save to prevent the goal.

The game remained scoreless until the 55th minute when Melissa Ortiz found Kirstie Schults down the left flank and Schults' shot was just past the reach of Martina Tangen Billing inside the post for the goal.

The Moccasins fought back, keeping the ball on the offensive third of the field for majority of the second half, including five corner kicks, but the Lynn defense held its ground.

Tangen Billing finished the game with four saves. Alvarado and Kara Moore had four shots each.

The Moccasins return to action Wednesday night when they travel to Saint Leo for an SSC match-up. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
