Mocs Cruise Past Lynn In Three

Hitting a season-best .365, the Moccasins cruised past Lynn in three sets, 27-25, 25-19, 25-14, Friday night in their Sunshine State Conference match at Jenkins Field House.

Improving to 12-10 overall, 6-4 in the SSC, the Moccasins' avenged a three-loss to Lynn Sept. 17 at Boca Raton. Lynn fell to 11-11, 4-5 in the SSC.

A balanced attack by the Moccasins was able to offset a strong individual effort by Lynn's Brittany Brown. Erin Callahan had 10 kills and hit .600, while Kate Stromberg added 10 kills and hit .391. Lauren Huber delivered nine kills and four blocks, Diana Castrillon and Anne Pietkiewicz tallied eight and seven kills, respectively.

Brown led Lynn with 17 kills and hit .560, but no one else had more than four kills for the Fighting Knights.

In the first set, the Moccasins were down 25-24, but tied it on a kill by Huber, then took the set on back-to-back kills by Callahan and Pietkiewicz. The Mocs rallied from a 15-10 deficit in set two. With the set tied at 16-16, the Moccasins went on a 4-0 run, then with a 20-18 lead they used a 5-1 run to close out the set. The third set was all FSC, as they scored the first three points and led the rest of the set.

The Moccasins go for the sweep of their weekend SSC series when they take on Barry Saturday at 4 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
