Box Score The Moccasins accomplished what Eckerd's previous 14 opponents could not, stopping the 22nd-ranked Tritons, 16-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-20, Saturday in their Sunshine State Conference match at St. Petersburg. The Tritons had entered the contest with a 14-match winning streak that had elevated them to second in the South Region and second in the SSC.
With the win the Moccasins, seventh in the South Region and fourth in the SSC, boosted their record to 15-12, 9-5 in the SSC, while the Tritons slipped to 23-4, 11-3 in the SSC.
After the two teams split the first two sets, the Mocs claimed the third set when Eckerd committed back-to-back errors with the score tied at 23-23. The fourth set was tied 18-18 when Kate Stromberg delivered a kill and added back-to-back aces, then Diana Castrillon closed out the match with a kill.
The Moccasins had five players in double figures in kills, led by Castrillon's 16. She hit .500 for the match. Lauren Huber notched 13 kills, hit .353 and delivered five blocks, while Stromberg, Erin Callahan and Anne Pietkiewicz each added 10 kills in the win. Anna Niebuhr produced a match-high 16 digs.
Alex Laton led Eckerd with 10 kills.
The Mocs play their final home game of the season Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Jenkins Field House against Florida Tech.
