Box Score

BOCA RATON - Behind a season-high 30 points from Rion Rayfield, the Moccasins won an important Sunshine State Conference road game here Saturday night with a 79-69 victory over Lynn.

The win allowed the Moccasins, now 9-3 in the SSC, to stay in second place, two games behind first-place Rollins, which beat Saint Leo Saturday to improve to 12-1.

Rayfield hit a near half-court shot at the buzzer that capped an 8-0 run to end the first half, pulling the Moccasins from a 32-32 tie to a 40-32 advantage at halftime. He didn't stop there, though, as he poured in 23 second-half points. FSC's all-time leader in three-point field goals, Rayfield was 8-10 from three-point range and 10-17 overall for the game.

The Moccasins followed their 8-0 spurt at the end of the first half with a 10-2 surge to start the second half and went on to build a margin as big as 25 points, at 68-43, with 11:49 remaining before Lynn made a charge. The Knights got as close as 77-69 with 57 seconds left, but Damon Ellison sank a pair of free throws with 34.6 seconds left to clinch the Moccasin win.

In addition to the 30 points from Rayfield, the Moccasins got 14 points from Brett Bailey, who was 6-6 from the field, and 13 from Brandon Jenkins. Chris Hall and Chris Watkins had 12 points apiece to lead the Knights.

The Mocs shot 57.7 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game shooting 51.9 percent (28-54).

Wednesday night the Moccasins will be at Eckerd for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
