Box Score LAKELAND - First-place Rollins came into Jenkins Field House Saturday with a chance to clinch the Sunshine State Conference regular season title with a win, but the Moccasins made sure there was no Tars' celebration with a 75-67 victory that stopped Rollins' 12-game winning streak.
Terry Jenkins came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points, including five three-pointers. Brett Bailey notched 14 points and was 6-6 from the free throw line, while Rion Rayfield and Brandon Jenkins each hit three three-pointers and scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to give the Moccasins their 19th win of the season (they're now 19-7 overall, 10-4 in the SSC). Nick Wolf led Rollins with a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Rollins slipped to 21-5 overall, but remains in control in the SSC at 12-2 with two games to play.
In a close first half in which the biggest margin by either team was five points, the lead changed six times before the Moccasins prevailed at halftime 31-30. The Tars pulled even at 36-36 with 17:15 remaining in the game, but Rion Rayfield's three-pointer 30 seconds later put the Moccasins in front to stay. The Moccasins built the lead to 13, at 60-47, at the 6:35 mark before a 9-0 Tars run was able to trim the margin to four, 60-56, but the Tars could not get any closer.
The Moccasins play their final regular season home game Wednesday night at 7:30 against Tampa. The Spartans, after a 91-82 overtime win against Nova Southeastern Saturday, are right behind the Moccasins in the SSC race at 9-5.
