Mocs Get 20-Win Season & 600th Win In Program History

Box Score

The final score was 87-63, but the big numbers for the Moccasins Saturday night at Jenkins Field House were 20 and 600.

The win over Rollins moved the Moccasins another step closer to the Sunshine State Conference regular season championship and in the process gave coach Jarrod Olson his first 20-win season at FSC (the Moccasins are now 20-4) and was the 600th victory in the 34-year history of the FSC women's basketball program.

With Florida Tech losing to Eckerd Saturday and Tampa beating Nova Southeastern, the Moccasins can clinch their first SSC regular season title since 2004-05 with a win over Tampa Wednesday night in the Moccasins' final regular season home game.  FSC is 12-2 in the SSC.  Tampa is 11-3.  Florida Tech is 10-4 and Rollins is 8-6.

Depite the Moccasins' big winning margin Saturday, it took them a while to get going.  Rollins jumped out to 12-2 lead with 14:47 left in the first half, but by the end of the half the Moccasins were up 41-36.  From the 16:05 mark in the second half to the 5:46 mark, the Moccasins erased any semblance of a close game by outscoring the Tars 28-6.  The Moccasins enjoyed their biggest lead, 77-51, with 5:46 left in the game.

Emma Cannon, with a 21-point, 14-rebound effort, posted her eighth straight double-double and 16th of the season.  While Cannon was controlling the inside, Chelsea Johnson and Megan Dzikas were lighting up the outside.  Johnson had 20 points, incluidng four three-pointers, and Dzikas added 15, all on five three-pointers.  Taylor Maldonado tossed in 12 points off the bench and Michaela Hawley had 10 points.  Amber Heistan led Rollins with 16 points.

Game time is 5:30 p.m. for Wednesday's SSC showdown with Tampa at Jenkins Field House.
