Mocs Make It 11 Straight At Home With Win Over Lions

Box Score

LAKELAND - The Moccasins continue to enjoy "the friendly confines" of Jenkins Field House, as they reeled off their 11th straight home win with a 95-84 Sunshine State Conference decision over Saint Leo Wednesday night.

Six players scored in double figures for FSC, led by Rion Rayfield, who matched his season scoring high with 24 points. He connected on four three-pointers, was 6-6 from the free throw line and delivered nine assists. Damon Ellison pumped in 19 points. Brett Bailey and Terry Jenkins each scored 12. Cameron Wooten and Jay Hubble each added 11.

Saint Leo was led by Jamal Thompson's 21 points and Dominick Robinson added 20.

The Lions jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game, but it lasted less than two minutes. A pair of free throws by Brandon Jenkins at the 15:30 mark put the Moccasins ahead 9-8 and, after one brief tie at 11-11, they never trailed the rest of the game. A 9-0 FSC run in the final 1:49 of the first half pushed the lead to 52-37 at halftime.

The Moccasins (17-6, 8-3 SSC) kept the lead in double digits the entire second half, enjoying their biggest lead of 25 points at 74-49 with 11:28 remaining.

Shooting 52.9 percent (36-68) from the field for the game, the Moccasins enjoyed their fifth game of the season shooting better than 50 percent. They connected on 11 of 24 three-pointers, marking the sixth time this season they've hit double figures from three-point range. The Moccasins enjoyed their best free throw shooting night of the season, sinking 12 of 13 (92.3 percent). They have had just one game all season in which they have shot less than 70 percent from the free throw line.

After registering a season-low seven turnovers against Barry last Saturday, the Moccasins matched that total against the Lions (10-12, 1-11 SSC). Brandon Jenkins, the Moccasins' leading rebounder for the season, pulled down a team-high seven, as FSC won the rebounding battle 34-33, and he also handed out seven assists.

The Moccasins will be on the road for their two outings, Saturday night at 7:30 at Lynn and next Wednesday night at 7:30 at Eckerd.
