Box Score The Moccasins took No. 2 ranked Tampa to four sets, but couldn't stop the Spartans from winning their 11th straight match without a loss this season, 25-16, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19, Wednesday night at Tampa.
The Spartans improved to 11-0, 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Moccasins fell to 7-5, 2-2 in the SSC.
Tampa broke an 8-8 tie with a 5-0 run en route to its first set victory. The Spartans broke a 5-5 tie with a 6-0 run and claimed the second set. In the third set, the Mocs took a 14-13 lead on a Tampa service error and held off the Spartans. Leading 23-22, the Mocs got a kill from Lauren Huber and a service ace from Elena Sorich to force a fourth set. Down 20-15 in the fourth set, the Moccasins closed to 21-19 before Tampa scored four straight points to close out the match.
The Moccasins were unable to stop Tampa's threesome of 6-2 Meagan Burke, 6-2 Danielle Selkridge and 6-0 Holly Reschke. Burke had a match-high 14 kills, hit .545 and collected four blocks. Selkridge, who entered the match with the SSC's top hitting percentage at .542, picked up 13 kills, hit .706 and delivered three blocks and Reschke added 13 kills, hit .320 and had two blocks.
Gabby Fernandez and Anne Pietkiewicz each had nine kills to lead FSC, with Huber and Erin Callahan each tallying eight kills. Ali Skayhan delivered 32 assists and a team-best 11 digs.
The Moccasins will take the weekend off from competition and return to action Tuesday night at 7 at Florida Tech.
