WINTER PARK â€" The Moccasins came here looking for their first meet win of the season and found it after beating Rollins College in major fashion by taking first in 10 of the 11 events en-route to beating the Tars 146-59. Florida Southern is now 1-4 on the season and has placed first in 23 events this season.
The FSC team showed that even though they are young they are still a force to be reckoned with as seven of the individual events were won by freshman and the other individual win for the Mocs came from a sophomore swimmer.
Freshmen swimmers, Alli Crenshaw (Marietta, Ga) and Kelsey Gouge (Snellville, Ga.), led the Mocs once again as each swimmer won two events during the meet. Crenshaw won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:45.50) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.10). Gouge finished first in the 50-yard freestyle in a season best time of 23.76 and picked up a victory in the 100-yard freestyle as well with a time of 52.03. Besides her two individual victories Gouge also swam leadoff on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Other individual winners included freshman Heather Burns (Lake City, Fla.) who swam a time of 4:44.75 to take first in the 400-yard individual medley and sophomore Catie Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) swam an individual season best time of 1:01.10 in her 100-yard butterfly win. Freshman Lauren Reynolds (St. Charles, Ill.) won the 100-yard backstroke (59.72) and freshman Morgan Burns (Hilton, N.Y.) finished out the individual competitions with a win and an individual season best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.94)
The Mocs also took home first place finishes in both relays, as the “A†team which consisted of Reynolds, M. Burns, Carden and senior Stephanie Doran (Flowery Branch, Ga.) swam a time of 1:51.85 to take first place in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 200-yard freestyle relay the Mocs’ “A†team, made up of, Gouge, Doran, senior Anna McIntyre (Kansas City, Mo.) and senior Jordan Momsen (Wales, Wis.) won in a season best time of 1:39.19.
It will be almost a full month before the Mocs get back into the pool for another meet as they will travel to Fort Lauderdale Dec. 14-17 to compete in the Nova Southeastern Invitational.     Â
