DAVIE - Florida Southern used three first place finishes and seven season-best times here Sunday to remain in fourth place with 501 points after the third day of the third annual NSU Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern and held at the NSU Aquatic Center.
On Sunday, the Mocs scored 205 points as they won three of the six events that were held and had four NCAA Division II 'B' qualifying times.
Nova Southeastern continues to lead the meet as they have scored 748.5 points, while Tampa moved into second place as they have tallied 725.5 points after three days and Florida International (676 points) fell to third place. Rollins (237 points) stands fifth and the Tars are followed by Catawba (220 points) in sixth, Lynn (162 points) is in seventh and Lenoir-Rhyne (134 points) stands in eighth place.
In Sunday's action, freshman Kelsey Gouge (Snellville, Ga.) won her second individual event as she swam a season-best and NCAA D-II 'B' qualifying time of 1:03.77 to finish first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Gouge's time of 1:03.77 also set a new NSU Shark Invitational record, which bettered the old mark of 1:04.51 set last season by former Moc Rae-Lynn Sheffield.
Along with winning the 100-yard breaststroke, Gouge also swam the second leg on the Mocs first place 200-yard medley relay team that recorded a season-best and 'B' qualifying time of 1:46.13. Other members of the winning 200-yard medley relay team were freshman Lauren Reynolds (St. Charles, Ill.), sophomore Catie Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) and senior Stephanie Doran (Flowery Branch, Ga.).
The Mocs other first place finish on Sunday came from Reynolds, as she swam a season-best and 'B' qualifying time of 56.28 to place first in the 100-yard backstroke. In addition to Reynolds, Doran finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 58.05 and Carden came in 11th place with a time of 59.91.
Other season best times on Sunday were turned in by freshman Heather Burns (Lake City, Fla.), who swam a time of 4:38.50 to finish in ninth place in the 400-yard IM, while Reynolds (59.18) and Carden (59.91) each swam season-best times in the 100-yard butterfly to finish ninth and 14th respectively. Doran also swam a season-best and 'B' qualifying time of 1:53.92 to finish sixth in the 200-yard freestyle.
The NSU Shark Invitational will conclude on Monday, Dec. 17 as the teams will swim preliminary heats in the morning and compete in the event finals beginning at 4 p.m. A live video stream of the finals for each event can be found at www.nsusharks.com.
