OCALA, Fla. - The Florida Southern College women's swimming team finished in fourth place at the end of the 2026 Sunshine State Conference Championships on Sunday afternoon at the FAST Center.
The Moccasins finished the championships with 345 points to secure the fourth-place position. The University of Tampa won the SSC Championship with 1096.5 points, followed by Nova Southeastern University in second place with 954.5 points, and Lynn University in third place with 508 points.
The opening event of the evening was the last heat of the 1650 free as
Natalie True took part in the final heat, finishing with a time of 17:23.94.
Gabrielle Goodwin, who swam in the morning heats, finished eighth overall, with a time of 17:23.57, just ahead of True. In the 100 free,
Sam Hunter made the A final and finished with a time of 51.00 for eighth overall. For the B final,
Mallory Baker finished in fourth with a time of 51.64, and
Rania Khallouqi finished sixth with a time of 51.92.
Zoë Celi was in the B final of the 200 back and had a 2:05.66 time to finish fifth in the consolation final.
Alexa Paredes also made a B final and took fifth in the 200 breast consolation final with a time of 2:24.12. The final event of the championships was the 400 free relay, as a team of Baker, Khallouqi,
Elizabeth Sikes, and Hunter finished in fourth with a time of 3:25.64.
In prelims, Hunter took the final spot for the 100 free A final with a time of 51.40. Baker (51.70) and Khallouqi (51.75) also made the evening session with good times. Other Mocs with top 30 times included
Hannah Stewart, Phoebe Reid, and
Josie Strobl. Celi was the sole Moc in the 200 back B final as
Sophia Kogelschatz (2:08.64),
Charlotte Bell (2:10.95),
Emma Huma (2:12.17),
Kaitlyn Weitz (2:13.24), and
Lauren Helminiak (2:13.25) took top 30 times for the morning session.
Paredes had a morning time of 2:25.75 in the 200 breast to make the B final and was the only FSC swimmer to take part in the evening's event. Morning swims for the mile swim included Goodwin, who had a time of 17:23.57, and Huma with a time of 18:21.37.
The Mocs will prepare for the NCAA Championships, which will take place Tuesday, March 10th - Saturday, March 14th at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Ind. The NCAA will announce championship selections and seeding on Wednesday, February 25
th.
