Led by Michaela Hawley’s seventh double-double of the season and Megan Dzikas’ three-point shooting, the Moccasins overwhelmed Barry, 80-50, Saturday at Miami Shores to tighten the Sunshine State Conference women’s race.
The Moccasins improved to 18-5, 9-4 in the SSC. Barry, which started the game as the SSC co-leader with Rollins at 9-2 and which had won six straight, slipped to 9-3, 15-7 overall.
Hawley poured in 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Dzikas added a season-high 25 points that included seven three-pointers. Danielle Walsh and Sofie Lundberg each had 11 points. Hawley was 9-9 from the free throw line and Dzikas was 7-12 from three-point range.  Taylor Maldonado delivered a a game-high six assists, matching her career high.Â
The Moccasins scored the first four points of the game and never trailed. They led 33-27 at halftime and after Dzikas hit a jumper with 12:48 remaining in the game, their lead never dropped below double digits.
In addition to Hawley’s 10 rebounds, Dzikas and Morgan Lamberg each had eight, as the Moccasins enjoyed a 50-29 advantage on the boards. Dzikas' eight rebounds are her season high.
Rollins took over sole possession of first place in the SSC with an 86-50 home win over Saint Leo to boost the Tars’ SSC mark to 10-2.
The Moccasins entertain Saint Leo Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
