Box Score

The Moccasins earned the chance to start defense of their Sunshine State Conference Tournament title at home in a couple of weeks with an 83-64 win over Saint Leo Wednesday night at Jenkins Field House.

The win, coupled with Barry’s loss to Florida Tech, boosted the Moccasins into second place in the SSC and clinched a home game for the first round of the SSC Tournament Feb. 29.   The Moccasins are 19-5, 10-4 in the SSC.  Rollins topped Lynn Wednesday night to stay in first place at 20-3, 11-2 in the SSC.  The top four teams in the final regular season standings will host first round games in the tournament.

A 15-9 run in the final  five minutes of the first half allowed the Moccasins to build a 47-34 advantage at halftime.  Saint Leo (7-16, 1-12 SSC) had a brief flurry in the opening minutes of the second half to trim the margin to seven, at 49-42, before the Moccasins scored 10 unanswered points to pull away to a 59-42 advantage with 12:48 remaining.  The Lions never got closer than 14 the rest of the game.

Tracy Fosterling connected for a season-high 18 points off the bench to share team scoring honors with Michaela Hawley, who also had 18.  Sofie Lundberg also had a strong performance off the bench, as she tallied 11 points.  Coach Jarrod Olson was able to play all 12 players in uniform, as Saint Leo had just seven players suited up.  Chelsea Connelly led the Lions with 24 points.

The Moccasins play their final regular season road game Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lynn.
