Mocs Defeat Notre Dame 21-7 to Remain Unbeaten

Box Score

The 15th-ranked Moccasins used a 9-2 run to end the first half that helped lift them to a 21-7 win over Notre Dame College Saturday afternoon at Bryant Stadium. With the win the Moccasins improve to 6-0 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 1-3.

Notre Dame struck first, as Elizabeth Anderson scored a free position goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Moccasins responded minutes later, as Caitlin Chase wrapped around the cage for an unassisted goal to tie the game. After the two teams traded goals, Katie Ferree connected with Chase for her second goal of the game. Kristen Hull responded 22 seconds later with a goal to even the score 3-3.

Looking for a spark in the team, head coach Kara Reber inserted Katie Gladhill to take the draws. Gladhill won her first two draw controls and converted them into two quick goals to give Florida Southern a 5-3 lead.  Maureen Cromer found Gladhill for her second goal of the season to extend the lead to 6-3. After the two teams traded goals, Danielle LaDuca scored back-to-back goals and assisted a goal to Alexa Caffrey to give the Mocs a 10-4 lead with 2:08 left in the first half.  After a Notre Dame goal, Meghan Colucci and Lorianne Hoover scored back-to-back goals to give the Moccasins a 12-5 lead at halftime.

Megan Asper and LaDuca each scored twice as part of six unanswered goals to start the second half that extended the Moc's lead to 18-5. The Falcons cut into the lead, as Hull found Allison Merten cutting toward the cage for a goal. Ferree and Hoover both connected on free position shots, while Erin Duke scored a man-up goal to cap the Mocs' scoring. The Falcons got a late goal by Taylor Shifflet for the 21-7 final.

Gladhill finished the game with seven draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Asper led the attack with six points and seven draw controls. Mara Mason, Ferree, LaDuca, Hoover, and Cromer tallied at least three points in the game.

Taylor Perry led the Mocs with three caused turnovers.

The Moccasins face 4th-ranked Lock Haven Tuesday night at Bryant Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
