Moseley Earns Shutout, But Mocs Settle for Scoreless Tie With Anderson

Box Score

COLUMBUS, GA â€" Erin Moseley earned her first career shutout Sunday, but even with the clean sheet, the Moccasins were denied a win. Despite out-shooting the Trojans 24-8 in the match, Florida Southern had to settle for a 0-0 tie with Anderson (SC) to close out a season-opening 2-game road trip.

Moseley, a sophomore from Jacksonville, had to make just three saves in the game, while Anderson goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp was forced into seven by the Moccasins. An Anderson defender also stopped a shot by Sarah Goolsby (Richmond Hill, GA) in the 82nd minute that might have given Florida Southern the win.

Florida Southern (0-1-1) out-shot Anderson (0-1-1) by a 7-2 margin in the two overtime periods, but saw Neipp make four of her seven saves during that 20-minute span. One of those came on a header by Alyssa Abrahamsen (Highland, NY) with 2:30 to play in the second overtime, which was Florida Southern’s final scoring chance of the game.

Kara Moore (Fleming Island, FL) and Kirra Rainbow (Melbourne Beach, FL) were Florida Southern’s most frequent scoring threats, with Moore taking seven shots and Rainbow taking five. Rainbow was responsible for four of Neipp's seven saves.

The scoreless tie was the third in team history, and the second time the Moccasins have left Columbus, Georgia with that result. In 2010, they played the 2nd-ranked Cougars to a 0-0 draw in their most recent scoreless game, and their most recent trip to Columbus as well.

Florida Southern will be on the road for two more games next weekend when it travels to Pensacola to face North Georgia on Friday at and West Florida on Sunday. Friday’s game kicks off at 1:00 p.m. EST.
