Moccasins Cruise to Victory over Florida Tech

LAKELAND - Multiple victories by the Florida Southern men's swimmers keyed the Moccasins to a 126-74 victory over Florida Tech at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool.

The Moccasins began the day with a first and second place finish from their "A" and "B" relay teams in the 400-yard medley relay, before sophomore Juan Tolosa (Guipuzcoa, Spain) took first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle, with fellow sophomores Raul Garrastazu (Dorado, P.R.) and Franco Lupoli (Weston, Fla.) finishing second and third respectively.

The lead then grew when junior Luis Rojas (Caracas, Venezuela) placed first in the 200 yard freestyle and Gutierrez placing first in the 50-yard freestyle. With junior Jesus Marin (Cumana, Venezuela) placing second in the 200, and freshman Diego Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) and sophomore Edson Lima (Rio de Janero, Brazil) finishing third and fifth in the 50, the Mocs' went up 57-17 on the Panthers.

Although losing their first event of the afternoon in the 400-yard IM, the Mocs placed three swimmers in the top five to widen their lead before Edison took first place in the 100-yard butterfly.

With junior Allan Gutierrez (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) winning the 100-yard freestyle, Gimenez taking the 100-yard backstroke and Tolosa winning the 500-yard freestyle, the Moccasins claimed victory despite losing the final events of the meet.
