LAKELAND - With another dominating performance by the Florida Southern women's swim team, the Moccasins improved their record to 3-0 after handling Florida Tech, 131-65.
The Moccasins jumped out to an early lead with first and second place finishes from their 400-yard medley teams. The Moccasins widened their lead with top three finishers in the 1,650-yard freestyle by sophomore Heather Burns (Lake City, Fla.), freshman Riley McClendon (Mansfield, Texas) and senior Carlee McDonald (Panama City Beach, Fla.). Another strong finish in the 200-yard freestyle by sophomore Lauren Reynolds (South Elgin, Ill.), freshman Elizabeth Fris (Holland, Mich.) and freshman Lily Rose (Rockley, Barbados) put the Mocs in a commanding 47-8 lead.
FSC lost their first event of the afternoon in the 50-yard freestyle, although they placed sophomore Alli Crenshaw (Marietta, Ga.), and freshmen Leah Haney (Evans, Ga.) and Teige Ballweber (Lockport, Ill.) in the top five.
The Moccasins then reeled off several victories to guarantee their victory over Florida Tech. Freshman Cassie Ley (Hilton Head, S.C.) placed first in the 400-yard IM with a season-best time of 4:39.74, while freshman Alex Ballard (Kingfisher, Okla.) finished in first in the 100-yard butterfly, and Gouge won the 100-yard freestyle.
Reynolds second victory of the afternoon came in the 100-yard backstroke, while Burns won her second event in the 500-yard freestyle.
Despite losing the final two events, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Moccasins early victories proved to be more than enough to claim victory over the Panthers.
Florida Southern returns to the pool on Friday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Winter Park to take on Rollins.
