Mocs Earn First Shutout in Program History With Win Over Chowan

Box Score

LAKELAND â€" Thirteenth-ranked Florida Southern scored the first goal of the game with 28:40 on the clock and never looked back, putting the 10-run mercy rule into effect by the 20:13 mark of the first half en-route to earning the program’s first shutout and a 22-0 win over the Chowan Hawks. The Moccasins improved to 6-1 on the season while the Hawks fell to 1-7.

The Moccasins made the score 15-0 at the 8:30 mark in the first half before relaxing the offense the rest of the half and the majority of the game, only scoring seven goals in the second half.

Leading the Mocs on the afternoon were Maureen Cromer, Meghan Colucci and Taylor Perry who each tallied six points. Cromer scored one goal and had five assists while Colucci earned all of her six points by assisting on six different goals. Perry led the Mocs on the day in goals scored with four; she reached six points by adding two assists on the afternoon.

All 21 FSC players who suited up today were able to get into the game and other than the two goalies, which saw action for the Mocs, 18 of 19 players tallied at least one point in the game.

Earning the win for the Mocs was Katie Hammerer, who improves to 5-0 on the season; she played 30 minutes of the game while backup goalie Lindsay Holdway played the other 30 minutes.

Holdway was actually the only Moccasin goalie to face a shot as the Mocs shutout became in danger with only seven seconds remaining in the game. The Hawks got their lone shot off from the left side of the goal but Holdway came up with the save to keep the shutout intact.

The Mocs will continue their home stand next Tuesday, March 19, at 5:00 p.m. against Colorado Mesa.
