Box Score BOCA RATON – Sheila Ramos came off the bench late in the second half and made an immediate impact just over two minutes later, scoring the eventual game-winner with seven minutes remaining to lift Florida Southern to a 2-1 road win at Lynn University.
Ramos came on as a substitution in the 81st minute and just over two minutes later, gave the Mocs a 2-1 lead when she intercepted a pass and fired a shot from the top of the box to beat the Lynn keeper.
It was a case of the third time's a charm as the Moccasins scored their first goal in the 32nd minute on a third consecutive corner kick. Izzy Loyd sent the corner kick into the box and it went off the back of a Lynn defender on a bad clear. Anna Griessler, who had just entered the game five minutes earlier, gathered the ball and hit the back of the net for a 1-0 Florida Southern lead.
The lead was short-lived as the Knights countered with a goal in the 35th minute when Summer Schults scored off a cross from Kelly Field to knot the match at 1-all.
Lynn looked like it had taken a 2-1 lead into the half with a goal in the final minute but was called offside on the play. The Knights outshot the Moccasins 6-2 in the first 45 minutes, with Helena Norrstrom recording a pair of first-half saves.
The Knights had an opportunity for the equalizer when they had a direct free kick just outside the top of the D in the 86th minute, but Kayley Smith's kick sailed wide the right of the goal.
For the match, Lynn outshot Florida Southern, 11-7, with Norrstrom coming up with four saves. The win improves the Moccasins' record to 2-7-2 overall and 2-4 in the Sunshine State Conference while Lynn falls to 2-8-1 and 1-4. The Mocs take a slim 9-8-6 series lead with the victory.
Florida Southern travels to Daytona Beach on Wednesday at 7 pm to face Embry-Riddle, which is a provisional member in the Sunshine State Conference.
