Double Overtime Game in Daytona Goes to Embry-Riddle, 1-0

Box Score

DAYTONA BEACH – Andrea Froshaug scored a goal in the fourth minute of the second overtime period to lift Embry-Riddle to a 1-0 win over visiting Florida Southern here Wednesday at ERAU Soccer Stadium.

Froshaug, the NAIA National Player of the Year a year ago, took the game-winning shot off a cross from Isabelle Haaranen for her seventh goal of the season. The shutout by the Eagles' Olivia Lynch was her fourth in a row and seventh of the season for the senior keeper. Lynch stopped all four of Florida Southern's shots on goal for the evening.

On the other end of the pitch, Moccasin keeper Helena Norrstrom was under attack for most of the evening and recorded nine saves, making outstanding play after outstanding play. Overall, Embry-Riddle fired 15 shots with 10 being on goal and took eight corner kicks to none by the Moccasins. Nine of the Eagles' shots came in the opening period of regulation with Norrstrom recording six saves.

Florida Southern's best chance for a goal came with just 24 seconds left in regulation when Izzy Loyd rocketed a shot from the top of the box that Lynch managed to get a hand on and deflect the ball over the crossbar.

The Eagles, in their second year of a three-year provisional membership in the Sunshine State Conference before becoming a full-time member in 2017, improve to 7-3-1 on the season while the Moccasins fall to 2-8-1, dropping their sixth one-goal loss of the season.

Florida Southern returns to SSC action on Saturday at home at 7 pm against Florida Tech.
