Hat Trick Leads Sailfish to Win Over Moccasins

Box Score

LAKELAND – Lucas DaSilva scored three goals and added two assists Saturday night, while Jermaine Metz played a role in three goals to lead #21 Palm Beach Atlantic to an 8-0 win over Florida Southern at Barnett Field.

Palm Beach Atlantic (6-0-1), which came into the game number two in the country in goals per game, scored four times in each half, with DaSilva scoring the first two and assisting the third. The sophomore midfielder connected on a header at the near post for his first goal nine minutes into the match, and his second came on a hard shot from 20 yards out in the 27th minute.

DaSilva then set up a goal by Eddy Milien in the 31st minute after winning a ball in the attacking third, and Cleef Desir's goal in the 34th minute sent the Sailfish into the locker room with their four-goal lead.

After a lightning delay postponed the start of the second half, the Sailfish saw DaSilva assist a goal by Metz in the 50th minute before DaSilva completed his hat trick in the 66th, which gave the national scoring leader 10 goals in the first seven games. Metz finished the night with one goal and two assists, and Lucas Coutinho assisted two goal for the Sailfish.

Florida Southern (1-4) was able to generate 10 shots in the game against a defense allowing just 6.0 per game, with redshirt freshman Jordyn Henderson taking three of those, and two more coming from junior Nico Guevara. The Sailfish kept the Mocs off the board though with three goalkeepers splitting the shutout, led by Steeven Raymont's 60 minutes.

The Moccasins will be on the road Wednesday night in St. Petersburg when they take on Eckerd College at 7 p.m.
