Late Goal Lifts Palm Beach Atlantic Over Florida Southern

Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH – Sophomore goalkeeper Helena Norrstrom came up with nine saves for the Moccasins Saturday night, but Palm Beach Atlantic scored on a counter-attack goal in the 85th minute to pull out a 1-0 win over Florida Southern.

The teams combined for 37 shots, but the only goal of the match was scored by Kasey Wyer with 5:17 remaining. Otherwise, the two goalkeepers were flawless with Norrstrom stopping nine shots and PBA's Isabelle Granlund making seven. The Moccasins (1-3-1) were held to five shots in the first half, but erupted for 11 in the second.

After Wyer gave Palm Beach Atlantic (4-2) the lead, Florida Southern (1-3-1) had two chances to tie the game, but sophomores Izzy Loyd and Dominique Cirnigliaro each put shots over the crossbar. Loyd had also hit the post earlier in the second half, and had four of the Moccasins' 16 shots.

Florida Southern returns to action at home on Wednesday night when it hosts Eckerd College at 7 p.m.
