#22 Tampa Needs Overtime to Beat Moccasins 2-1

Box Score

TAMPA – Florida Southern got on the board early with a goal by Sheila Ramos, but Tampa scored early in the second half to tie the game and got the game-winner from Cici Gonzalez with 3:19 remaining in the second overtime that gave the Spartans a 2-1 victory over the Moccasins.

The Moccasins jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind Ramos, who headed in a corner kick by Izzy Loyd 5:33 into the contest. It came on the first shot of the game for either team, and those shots were few and far between for most of the first half. Each team had only three in the first 45 minutes, with all three of Tampa's coming in the final nine minutes, and all three saved by Helena Norrstrom.

In the second half, the Spartans scored off their second shot of the period just 1:06 after the kickoff, with Korey O'Rourke tying the game at one. Norrstrom kept the game tied, however, with seven saves in the second half, four of them in the final eight minutes, and the last one coming in the 88th minute.

In the first overtime, the Moccasins survived four shots and two corner kicks by the Spartans, and had one shot of their own. That one came from freshman Anna Griessler, who had it saved by Caroline Frykgard in the 97th minute.

The second overtime saw Florida Southern take two shots to Tampa's one, but that one shot for the Spartans came from Gonzalez and was on target for the game-winner.

Norrstrom finished with 11 saves for the Moccasins to equal her season-high, and Frykgard made six for the Spartans, who had their fifth one-goal victory of the season amongst their six wins overall.

Florida Southern will be at home for its next match, taking on another nationally ranked team in #11 Barry. The Moccasins and Buccaneers will kick off Saturday night at 7 p.m.
