Styron Scores Late for Moccasins Before Barry Holds on for 2-1 Win

Box Score

MIAMI SHORES – Megan Styron's first career goal gave Florida Southern a chance for a late win, but two earlier goals just two minutes apart by Barry University held up as the Buccaneers defeated the Moccasins 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game was scoreless for more than 75 minutes when Amanda Traynor and Molly Sharpe scored two minutes and 11 seconds apart to put Barry (5-2-1, 2-2 Sunshine State Conference) ahead 2-0.
  • Traynor's goal came on a break-away down the middle and was assisted by Sharpe, and Sharpe then headed in a cross from Carissa Sanchez out of the right corner for the second goal.
  • The Moccasins (1-4-1, 1-3 SSC) got on the board with 1:17 remaining when the Buccaneers had trouble clearing a corner kick, with Styron putting her shot from near the middle of the box over the head of Barry goalkeeper Paula Forero. It was the first career goal for the redshirt sophomore, and it was also the first career assist for junior Alex Diamandis.
  • Barry finished with a 20-5 advantage in shots and junior goalkeeper Helena Norrstrom made seven saves for the Moccasins. Norrstrom played the first 82:28 before giving way to sophomore Paige Koetter.
