Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College volleyball saw its 12-match home winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 loss to Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn on Saturday at Jenkins Field House. The No. 21 Moccasins (10-4, 4-2 SSC) jumped out to an early lead in the first set, but the Knights (9-4, 3-2) rallied to win the first set and carried the momentum through the final two sets to snap a nine-match losing streak to Florida Southern.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern raced out to a 7-1 lead in the first set and was able to maintain its lead until late in the set, when the Knights would reel off a 7-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. The Mocs were able to cut the deficit to just one (22-21) later in the set, but Lynn hung on for a 25-22 set win.
• The Knights jumped out early in the second set and Florida Southern was never able to recover. Lynn led the entire way en route to 25-10 second set win, thanks in part to a 7-0 run to close out the set.
• Both teams were neck-and-neck early on in the third set, but the Knights used a 6-1 run to jump out to a 10-7 lead. Lynn would extend its lead to seven points (22-15) later in the set, but the Mocs were able to close the gap to three points (22-19) with a 4-0 run late in the set. The Knights were able to maintain their lead and picked up a 25-21 third-set win to complete the sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Saturday's loss snapped a 12-match home winning streak for the Mocs. It was Florida Southern's first home loss since falling to then No. 7 Tampa (3-2) on Oct. 8, 2015. The Moccasins dropped to 481-119 all-time at Jenkins Field House.
• The loss also snapped a nine-match winning streak against Lynn. The Knights picked up just their ninth win overall in the series as Florida Southern dropped to 30-9 against the Lynn, including a 16-4 home record.
• Brindl Langley finished the day with 12 digs to push her career total to 1,552. She needs 81 more to move into fourth place in school history and is 263 away from breaking the school record, currently help by Sara Stewart (1,814).
• Anna Tovo had a team-high 11 kills against Lynn. It was her 27th-straight match with double digit kills dating back to last year.
UP NEXT
• Florida Southern will play two matches on the road against Rollins (Oct. 7) and Embry Riddle (Oct. 8) before playing three matches at the annual SSC/GSC Crossover, which will be held in Orlando from Oct. 14-15. The trio of opponents has yet to be determined.
