Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida Southern College volleyball returned to action on Friday with a 3-1 win over Union at the 2016 South Region Crossover at the Orlando Sports Complex. Despite having not played two weeks due to Hurricane Matthew, the No. 22 Moccasins (11-4) showed little rust in defeating the Bulldogs (7-13).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern grabbed an early lead in the first set and never trailed. The Mocs used a 5-0 run midway through the set to turn a 13-11 lead into an 18-11 advantage. Union was able to close the gap to 21-18 and force FSC to call timeout, but the Mocs held on for 25-19 first-set win.
• The Moccasins scored the first five points of the second set and dominated en-route to a 25-14 second-set victory. Florida Southern saw its lead cut to two points (11-9), but reeled off a 9-2 run to jump out to a 20-11 lead and Union would never challenge the rest of the way.
• In the third set, FSC looked as if it might come away with a sweep as it scored the first three points and built a 15-10 lead. But the Bulldogs battled back to tie the set at 18-18. After Florida Southern went up 22-21, Union scored four of the next five points to stave off elimination and earn a 25-23 third-set win.
• The fourth and final set was all Florida Southern, as the Mocs build an 11-4 lead and never led by less than five points the rest of the way. Nicole Mattson picked up the match-clinching point with a kill at the end to give FSC a 25-13 fourth-set win.
