Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Florida Southern College volleyball dropped a tough five-set match to Embry-Riddle on Tuesday night at the ICI Center. The Moccasins (19-10) earned a first-set victory, but the Eagles (14-14) took the next two sets and picked up 15-10 fifth-set win for the match victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set of the contest was a story of momentum swings as the Mocs used an early 4-0 run to stake themselves to an 8-4 edge. The Eagles would mount a comeback late in the set to take a 21-19 edge, but the Moccasins scored three in a row to go in front 23-21, and would hang on for a 25-23 win.
• Embry-Riddle was able to take an early 3-0 lead in the second set, but FSC rallied with with a 7-2 run to jump out in front. The teams would trade jabs until the score stood at 20-19 in favor of the Mocs. That's when the Eagles scored three in a row and took a 25-22 second-set win.
• Florida Southern looked as if it might cruise to a third-set win when it used a 7-0 run to take a 15-6 lead midway through, but Embry-Riddle responded with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to one point (17-16). With the score tied at 24-24 late in the set, the Eagles were able to score two in a row to complete the comeback for a 26-24 third-set win.
• The Mocs largely dominated the fourth set, jumping out to an early 9-4 lead and never looking back. The Eagles never got closer than five points the rest of the way as Florida Southern rolled to a 25-16 fourth-set win to send the match to a decisive fifth set.
• Florida Southern and Embry-Riddle would battle to an early 5-5 tie in the fifth set before the Eagles mounted a 4-0 run to take a 9-5 lead. The Mocs were unable to close the gap, as Embry-Riddle would grab a 15-10 win to take a 3-2 match victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Anna Tovo finished the night with 18 kills to extend her double-digit kill streak to 42-straight matches dating back to last year. She also added 26 digs in the match. Nicole Mattson and Allie Geary also tallied 18 kills each. Mattson finished with 20 digs, while Geary added two solo blocks. Rachel Mostert added 13 kills to round out four players in double figures.
• Brindl Langley recorded 27 digs to push her career total to 1,854 and increase her school record for career digs. She also recorded seven assists and one service ace.
• Bethany Besancenez notched 58 assists in the contest to move to 2,199 for her career. She currently ranks 10th in school history in assists, and eighth in assists per set (8.12).

• Florida Southern closes out the regular season on Friday when it travels to Florida Tech for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday. The Mocs will wait to see where they will play in the postseason, as the NCAA Division II Tournament selection show is slated for Monday.
