Knights Top Mocs in Three Sets

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Southern College volleyball dropped its second-straight match in a 3-0 loss to Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn on Friday at the de Hoernle Center. The Moccasins (15-9, 7-5 SSC) fell to the Knights (16-9, 7-5) for the second time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Knights set the tone early in the first set as they raced out to an 8-1 lead over the Mocs. Florida Southern was never able to overcome the deficit, but did show signs of life late when it pieced together a 6-0 run to slice Lynn's lead from nine points (23-14) to just three (23-20). The Knights were able to hang on for a 25-20 first-set win.
• The second set was a tight battle throughout, with neither team able to pull ahead by more than two points until the closing stages. The Mocs were able to tie things up at 19-19, but Lynn responded by scoring six of the final seven points to take another 25-20 set victory and a 2-0 match lead.
• The third and final set was also close early on, but the Knights reeled off a 5-0 run midway through to turn a 14-12 lead into a 19-12 advantage. Florida Southern was never able to recover, as Lynn went on to take a 25-17 victory and finish off the sweep.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern fell to 30-10 all-time against Lynn, and has dropped consecutive matches to the Knights for the first time since losing in the second meeting of 2010 and the first meeting of 2011. The loss also marked the first time that the Mocs have lost to Lynn twice in the same season since the 2009 campaign. FSC fell to 14-6 all-time when facing the Knights on the road.
• Brindl Langley finished the night with 21 digs to push her career total to 1,740. She needs just 10 more to move into second place in Florida Southern history in career digs. Langley is 75 digs away from breaking Sara Stewart's school record of 1,814.
• Bethany Besancenez recorded 27 assists to give her 1,953 for her career, good for 10th in school history. She has accomplished the feat in just 220 career sets for an average of 8.88 assists per set, which is currently eighth in school history.
• Anna Tovo tallied 10 kills on the night to make it 37-straight matches in double digit kills. Tovo also finished with nine digs, two aces and a block solo.
• Nicole Mattson led all players with 12 kills. Mattson has recorded double-digit kills in four-straight matches for a total of 66 in the past four contests. She has recorded at least 10 kills in 14 matches this season.

UP NEXT
• Florida Southern will square off with Barry at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Mocs finish a four-match road stretch with a 7 p.m. contest at Rollins on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The Moccasins play their final two home matches on Nov. 11 (Embry-Riddle) and Nov. 12 (Rollins).
