Women's Hoops Extends Home Win Streak to 15 Straight

LAKELAND, FL - Danielle Thomas recorded her first double-double of the year and Florida Southern College women's basketball won its 15th-straight home game with a 69-51 win over Barry on Saturday at Jenkins Field House.

The No. 21 Moccasins (6-2, 4-0) remained perfect in Sunshine State Conference play, while the Buccaneers (3-5, 2-3) lost for the fourth time in the last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern fell behind 2-0 when Barry scored the first bucket of the game, but the Bucs' lead would be short-live as Jensen Blassage drilled a three-pointer with 9:10 to go in the first quarter, and the Mocs would never trail again.
• The Buccaneers were able to keep it lose throughout much of the first half, but Florida Southern ripped off a 13-0 run late in the first half to turn a 24-19 advantage into a commanding 37-19 lead. The Mocs took a 40-25 lead into the half as Barry hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds.
• After allowing Barry to hit 50.0 percent (6-of-12) in the first quarter, the Mocs limited the Bucs to just 28.6 percent (4-of-14) in the second stanza.
• The Moccasins extended their lead to 20 points (47-27) with 5:25 to go in the third quarter and never saw their lead diminish to less than 15 the rest of the way, extending the lead to as many as 23 points (61-38) with just over seven minutes to play.
• Florida Southern held Barry to just 34.9 percent (15-of-43) from the the floor, and won the rebounding battle by a 50-29 tally. The Mocs hauled in 24 offensive rebounds, which resulted in 26 second-chance points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 407-146 (.736) all-time at Jenkins Field House, and extended its home winning streak to 15-straight dating back to last year. The Moccasins are 28-5 in home games under head coach Betsy Harris.
Anja Fuchs-Robetin led the Mocs with 19 points, while Gianna Vastola and Danielle Thomas each scored 10. Thomas also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
• Seven different players dished out at least two assists for Florida Southern, led by Elsa Landberg's game-high five.
• Florida Southern improved to 45-17 all-time against Barry, including 26-4 when facing the Bucs at Jenkins Field House.

UP NEXT
• Florida Southern will face No. 17 West Texas A&M on Friday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m., before taking on Auburn-Montgomery the following day. The games are part of the annual Terrace Hotel Classic, which will also feature Eckerd.
• The Moccasins close out the calendar year with home games against Claflin (Dec. 19) and Tampa (Dec. 30).
