Box Score BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Southern College men's basketball struggled to find its offensive rhythm in an 80-56 setback on Wednesday at Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn.
The Moccasins (4-10, 2-3 SSC), shot just 32.7 percent (18-of-55) from the floor and did not connect on a three-pointer in the second half as the Fighting Knights (8-4, 3-3) picked up their sixth-straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Knights jumped on top early an never trailed, outscoring the Moccasins 44-24 in the first half. Leading by just four points (18-14) midway through the opening period, Lynn reeled off a 26-10 run over the final ten minutes to take a 20-point lead into the locker room
• Lynn extended its lead to as many as 33 points in the second half and was never really threatened by Florida Southern, which went 0-of-8 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes of action. The Mocs held the Knights to 42.3 percent shooting in the second half after Lynn shot a blistering 63.3 percent in the first period, but FSC managed to hit just nine shots total in the second half.
• The Knights finished the game shooting 53.6 percent (30-of-56), but went just 4-of-13 from long range and 16-of-23 from the free-throw line. Florida Southern shot 32.7 percent (18-of-55) overall and was just 2-of-22 from beyond the arc while connecting on 18-of-27 at the charity stripe.
• Florida Southern finished with a 37-34 edge in rebounds, but was outscored 48-30 in the paint and 18-6 in points off turnovers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern fell to 37-11 all-time against Lynn and 15-5 when facing the Knights in Boca Raton. The loss marked the Mocs' second-straight defeat against the Knights, marking the first time Lynn has won back-to-back games against Florida Southern since the 2006-07 season.
• The Moccasins' three-point percentage (9.1 percent) was the teams lowest since hitting just 8.0 percent (2-of-25) in a 94-76 loss to Barry on Feb. 5, 2014.
• Jarel Spellman logged his third-straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He has five double-doubles this season and six in his career (includes a triple-double last year).
• Brett Hanson was Florida Southern's only other double-digit scorer with 11 points. He has scored in double figures nine times this year. Hanson also grabbed seven rebounds.
