Dics and Di Bella Double up on Wins as Florida Southern Sweeps Past Rollins 171-33 in Women's Swimming

LAKELAND, FL – Rebeka Dics and Maria Di Bella each posted two individual wins, and five other Moccasins were also in the win column as Florida Southern swept its Friday night meet with Rollins for a 171-33 victory over the Tars.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Florida Southern started the meet behind Kyra Fraser, Haley DeGrace, Katja Hajdinjak and Allison Greenwood, who won the 400-medley relay by nearly 10 seconds over Rollins' top team of Macy Trattner, Taylor Wilks, Grace Hansen, and Maya Thompson.
  • In the first individual race of the night, the Moccasins went 1-2-3 in the 1,000-freestyle with Allie Kaufmann picking up her first win in a time of 11:03.11. Fraser, who was fresh off her winning role in the 400-medley relay, was second, a little over two seconds behind Kaufmann, and Madelyn Snodgrass was third.
  • Krystal Karas followed that with her first win of the season in the 200-freestyle, one of the Mocs' most dominant events of the night. Not only did Karas win in a time of 1:57.04, the Mocs also took second (Katie Moore), third (Lanier Whitton) and fourth (Allison Hunter).
  • Di Bella's first win as a Moccasin came in the 50-freestyle where the freshman posted a time of 25.28 seconds for a 0.15-second margin over runner up Rachel Ringley. The Mocs again took third and fourth with Greenwood and Karas in those positions.
  • Florida Southern made it 5-for-5 before the first break when Dics won the 200-IM in 2:16.34. DeGrace was second, a little under three seconds behind Dics, before the Tars' Taylor Wilks took third.
  • Dics earned her second win of the night when she slipped past Kimmy Chang in the 100-butterfly, overcoming an early deficit to beat her teammate by 0.12 seconds. Both of them broke the one-minute mark in that race, with Chang doing it for the second time this year. Ringley finished third.
  • Hajdinjak, who had earlier been part of the winning 400-medley relay team, notched an individual win in the 100-freestyle in 53.79 seconds, putting her 2.09 seconds ahead of Greenwood, with Moore giving the Mocs another third-place finish.
  • Di Bella then picked up her second win of the meet by taking the 100-backstroke in 1:00.54, a 2½ second win over Whitton, and Amanda Giannattasio coming in third.
  • Peyton Breault became the sixth different Moccasin with an individual win Friday night when she captured the 500-freestyle in 5:18.22, as Kaufmann came in 3.45 seconds behind her for second.
  • DeGrace won the 100-breaststroke for the second time in as many dual meets this season, swimming that in 1:07.34. Jacinda Whittenburg was second.
  • Florida Southern closed things out with a 1-2 finish in the 400-freestyle relay where the team of Breault, Hajdinjak, Whittenburg, and Karas won in 3:38.37.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The last time Florida Southern won a meet by sweeping every race was October 23, 2015 at Florida Tech when the Moccasins also won nine individual events and two relays. Breault, Karas and Whittenburg were among the winners in that one too.
