Women's Basketball Dismantles Embry-Riddle

LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College women's basketball dominated visiting Embry-Riddle on Saturday at Jenkins Field House, picking up a 69-40 win to extend its winning streak to four-straight games.

The Moccasins (16-7) used a stifling defensive effort to exact revenge on the Eagles (14-8) for last month's 65-54 loss in Daytona Beach.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Embry-Riddle would score first, but the lead would be short lived as Florida Southern grabbed an 8-6 lead on a Jensen Blassage layup with 6:30 to go in the first quarter, and never trailed again.
• The Moccasins outscored the Eagles 17-7 in the second quarter to build a 34-20 halftime lead. FSC hit 7-of-10 shots in the second quarter, and held ERAU to just 3-of-9 from the floor.
• After seeing its lead cut to just eight points (38-30) with 6:49 to go in the third quarter, Florida Southern would reel off a 17-0 run to take a commanding 55-30 lead. The Mocs would hold the Eagles scoreless for more than eight minutes during the run, and did not allow an ERAU field goal for almost 11 minutes total.
• Florida Southern finished the night shooting 61.7 percent (29-of-47) from the floor, its second-best shooting performance of the season. Embry-Riddle shot just 30.4 percent (17-of-56).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 413-150 all-time in home games, including 34-9 under head coach Betsy Harris. The Mocs improved to 4-1 all-time against Embry-Riddle, including 3-0 at Jenkins Field House.
• Gianna Vastola scored nine points in the game to moved to 989 for her career. She needs just 11 more to hit the 1,000-point mark. Vastola scored 400 points as a freshman at the College of Coastal Georgia, and has 589 at Florida Southern.
• Anja Fuchs-Robetin led the Moccasins with 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Anissa Toumi added 11 points off the bench while Camille Giardina poured in 10.
• The Moccasins won the rebounding battle by a 34-28 tally. Florida Southern outscored Embry Riddle in the paint (42-26), off turnovers (15-10), and in bench scoring (29-6).

UP NEXT
• Florida Southern will play at Tampa on Feb. 15, before playing its final regular-season home game aganst Lynn on Feb. 18. The Moccasins wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games at Barry (Feb. 22) and Eckerd (Feb. 25).
