Men's Basketball Falls to Tampa at Buzzer

TAMPA, FL - Marcel Robinson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cap off Tampa's second half comeback as Florida Southern College men's basketball fell to its Sunshine State Conference rival on Wednesday at the Martinez Center.

The Moccasins (11-14, 8-7 SSC) led by 11 points with just under four minutes to go, but the Spartans (16-9, 9-6) ended the game on a 17-5 run to complete the season sweep of the Mocs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After Tampa took a 3-0 lead on the game's opening possession, Florida Southern responded with seven-straight points to take the lead. The Moccasins would dominate much of the first half, building a 14-point lead (42-28) with 4:38 to go.
• The Spartans would claw their way back, holding the Mocs scoreless for the remainder of the opening period before taking a 43-42 lead on Matt Johnson's buzzer-beating three at the end of the first half.
• In the second half, Florida Southern again took a double-digit lead (60-49) with 12:03 on the clock. Tampa was able to cut the deficit to just five points (67-62) with 4:47 left to play, but the Moccasins scored six-straight points to push the lead back to 11 (73-62) with 3:47 to go.
• After Jeremiah Davis converted 1-of-2 free throws to put the Mocs up by one (78-76) with 20 seconds to go, Tampa would hold for the last shot, and Robinson would deliver the game winner from long range.
• Florida Southern shot 43.3 percent (16-of-34) on the night, including 5-of-22 from long range and 15-of-20 at the charity stripe. Tampa connected on 48.1 percent (25-of-52) of its shots, including 9-of-23 from deep and 20-of-24 at the free-throw line.
• The Spartans came away with 36 rebounds to Florida Southern's 34, but the Moccasins finished with a 40-24 edge in points in the paint.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern fell to 90-54 all-time against Tampa as the Spartans finished off the regular-season sweep of the Moccasins.
• The Spartans outscored the Mocs by a total of 32-8 over the final four minutes of each half; 15-0 in the first half and 17-8 in the second half.
• Jeremiah Davis led the Moccasins with 24 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. He also dished out five assists.
• Brett Hanson poured in 18 points and Michael Volovic added 11. Jack Rauch came off the bench to score 12 points. Davis, Hanson and Volovic each recorded three steals.

• Florida Southern wraps up its regular-season home slate against Lynn on Saturday. The Moccasins will recognize seniors Jeremiah Davis and Michael Volovic on Senior Day.
• The Mocs wrap up the regular season with road trips top Barry (Feb. 22) and Eckerd (Feb. 25).
