Men's Hoops Falls to Lynn in Home Finale

LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College men's basketball fell prey to the three-pointer in a 93-70 loss to Lynn on Saturday at Jenkins Field House.

The Moccasins (11-15, 8-8 SSC) were unable to overcome the hot-shooting Knights (12-12, 7-9), and will need help to earn a home game in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, which begins on March 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern fell behind 6-0 in the first two minutes, but reeled off an 11-0 run to jump back in front (11-6) with 14:41 to play. Lynn battled back to take a one-point lead (18-17) at the 12:30 mark, but the Moccasins scored seven-straight points to grab a 24-18 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the half.
• The Knights went on a 15-3 run of their own to jump in front by six (33-27) with 5:42 to play in the opening period, but the Mocs would come all the way back to tie the game at 38-38 on Brett Hanson's jumper in the closing seconds.
• Both teams would trade jabs in the early stages of the second half, but with Lynn clining to a one-point lead (59-58) with 11:57 on the clock, the Knights would reel off a 12-1 run to take a commanding 71-59 lead, and the Moccasins would never recover.
• Lynn used the long ball to put the game out of reach, connecting on 16-of-29 shots from three-point range, including 9-of-14 in the second half. The Knights finished the night shooting 50.8 percent while holding the Moccasins to 40.3 percent.
• Florida Southern was outrebounded 45-35, and Lynn outscored the Mocs in the paint (30-28) and on second-chance points (14-8).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern fell to 890-332 all-time at home, including 701-189 at Jenkins Field House. The Mocs dropped to 37-12 all-time against Lynn, and have lost three in a row to the Knights.
• Michael Volovic led Florida Southern with 16 points in his final regular-season home game. Jarel Spellman scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebound and recorded six blocks, while Jeremiah Davis and Brett Hanson each scored 12. Jack Rauch added 13 off the bench.
• Lynn was led by a game-high 40 points from Marquan Botley, who set a school record with 10 three-pointers. He finished 10-of-13 from long range and made five three-pointers in each half, scoring 25 points in the second half.

UP NEXT
• Florida Southern closes out the regular season with games at Barry (Feb. 22) and Eckerd (Feb. 25). The Moccasins have secured a spot in the SSC Tournament, which begins on March 1, but will have to wait for results of the final week of conference play to find out whether they will play at home or on the road in the first round.
