Women's Hoops Blows Out Sailfish

LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College women's basketball broke out of an early shooting slump and cruised to an easy 88-60 victory over visiting Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at Jenkins Field House.

The Moccasins (14-7, 10-3 SSC) got off to a slow start, but caught fire in the second quarter to complete the season sweep of the Sailfish (7-14, 3-11) and stay in contention for a regular-season Sunshine State Conference title.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern struggle to find the basket early on, shooting just 20.0 percent (4-of-20) from the floor as both teams scored just 14 points in the first 10 minutes of action.
• The Moccasins were able to dial it in in the second quarter, hitting 11-of-17 shots (57.9 percent) and outscoring the Sailfish 29-16 to head to the locker room with a 43-30 lead.
• Florida Southern also shot better than 50.0 percent in the third and fourth quarters, pushing its lead to as many as 27 points in the third quarter and a game-high 34 points late in the fourth quarter.
• PBA led for just 1:50 in the game, while the Moccasins led for nearly 35 minutes. The game was tied for 3:24. FSC outscored the Sailfish 39-27 in bench points as Anissa Toumi (15 points) and Jensen Blassage (14) each scored in double figures off the bench.
• The Mocs shot 44.8 percent (30-of-67) on the night, while holding Palm Beach Atlantic to just 37.9 percent (22-of-58). Florida Southern shot an impressive 87.0 percent (20-of-23) from the free-throw line. FSC finished with a 45-30 advantage in rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern moved to 20-2 all-time against PBA, including 10-1 at home. The Moccasins have won four-straight against the Sailfish. FSC moved to 412-150 all-time in home games, including 33-9 under head coach Betsy Harris.
• Camille Giardina led all players with 20 points while grabbing four rebounds. Anja Fuchs-Robetin narrowly missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Gianna Vastola added eight points and 11 boards.
• Vastola now has 971 career points, and needs just 29 more to hit 1,000 for her career. She scored 399 points as a freshman at the College of Coastal Georgia, and has scored 572 in her three seasons at Florida Southern.
