Women's Lacrosse Crushes Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, FL - Eight different players scored at least two goals as Florida Southern College women's lacrosse rolled to a 21-4 win over Sunshine State Conference rival Saint Leo on Saturday at University Turf Field.

The No. 5 Moccasins (12-2, 1-0 SSC) picked up their ninth-straight win, and topped the Lions (5-5, 0-1) for the sixth-straight time.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern jumped out to a commanding 9-0 lead just 12 minutes into the first half and was never in danger. Emily Santoli scored three of her game-high four goals in the opening 10 minutes of action.
• Saint Leo scored its first goal with 4:57 to go in the first half, but the Moccasins scored the final two goals of the period to take an 11-1 lead into the locker room.
• The Mocs scored the first eight goals of the second half to push their lead to 19-1 with 12:37 to play. Saint Leo would score three times in the final 10 minutes of play, but the Moccasins scored twice to make the final 21-4.
• Florida Southern outshot Saint Leo 30-17, held an 18-15 advantage in ground balls, and won 20-of-36 draw controls. The Mocs also converted 4-of-7 free-position shots and completed 15-of-16 clear attempts.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to a perfect 6-0 all-time against Saint Leo, and won its ninth-straight conference game to move to 9-0 all-time in SSC play.
• Santoli posted her sixth multi-goal game of the season, and has scored 14 goals in the last four games. Julia Couch added three goals for her second hat trick of the year.
• Dani Bursinger, Sannon Gilfedder, Sarah Grady, Shannon Mazza, Meghan O'Brien and Cayla Shawfield each scored twice. Bursinger also won nine draw controls and tallied an assist. Couch, Shawfield and Casey O'Brien recorded two assists.
• Alanna Zambetti made seven stops to pick up her eighth win of the season. Taylor Gillis played the entire second half in her first action since March 9. She had missed the last five games due to a concussion.
• The Moccasins scored 20 or more goals for the second-straight game and the fifth time this season. Florida Southern has scored 20 goals in five of its past eight games.

UP NEXT
• Florida Southern plays host to Florida Tech on April 1 before heading to Tampa on April 8. The Mocs will close out conference play at home against Rollins on April 11 before wrapping up the regular season with a home game against Lenoir-Rhyne (April 14) and a trip to Limestone (April 22).
