Box Score MIAMI SHORES, FLA. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer team returned to the win column on Saturday, taking a 2-0 decision at Barry University. The Mocs had gone three straight matches without a win, and are now 3-4-4 overall, and 2-2-3 in the Sunshine State Conference. Barry drops to 4-9 overall, and 1-5 in the SSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes, with both teams having scoring chances.
- In the first half, Barry had eight shots, as the Mocs had five.
- In the second half, the Mocs were threatening, as Edu Capote re-entered the game as a substitute in the 72nd minute.
- Just three minutes later, at the 74:38 mark, Capote's appearance seemed prophetic. He took a pass from junior James Meehan and scored what would be the game-winning goal.
- The Mocs continued to press forward, and were able to get an insurance goal in the 85th minute, as senior Eneko Lasheras made the score 2-0 with five minutes to play in the game
- Grad student Philip Faderl kept a clean sheet by turning away the five shots on goal he faced.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Each team fired off 14 shots, though the Mocs had six shots on goal, and the Bucs five.
- The game was very physical, with 33 total fouls, and five yellow cards.
- With the win, Florida Southern has nine points, and is in a tie for third place in the SSC with Saint Leo.
