FSC Men's Soccer Falls to No. 17 Lynn, 1-0

LAKELAND, FLA. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer program dropped a very physical match to No. 17 Lynn University on Saturday night, 1-0, in front of a raucous crowd at Moccasin Field. No. 17 Lynn remains undefeated at 6-0-1 (3-0-1 Sunshine State Conference), while FSC drops to 2-3-3 (1-1-2 SSC).

HOW IT HAPPENED                  

  • The first half was rather uneventful for both sides. Each team managed four shots apiece, with only one shot on goal.
  • Junior striker James Meehan had Southern's shot on goal in the 8th minute.
  • The Mocs carried play to open the second half. In the 50th minute, Jacob Ling-Vannerus had a 1v1 opportunity with the keeper but could not connect.
  • A minute later, a corner kick led to a header for Ling-Vannerus and another Lynn save.
  • Quickly the tide turned. At 57:43, Lynn finally converted. A beautiful pass into the center of the box came from Julian Kersting to set up Lukas Hombach. FSC keeper Philip Faderl came out and partially made the save, but the ball's momentum carried the ball over the goalline.
  • In the 72nd minute, Martin Wall had a golden opportunity, but a strong save kept the score at 1-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Florida Southern took eight shots, with three on goal. Lynn managed seven total shots, with five on goal.
  • FSC had an advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.
  • FSC recorded five yellow cards, while Lynn had two.
  • Lynn has now run their streak of holding opponents scoreless to 313:06.
