Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Southern College volleyball struggled to find its offensive groove as it fell to Lynn, 3-0, in a Sunshine State Conference road contest on Saturday at the de Hoernle Center. The Moccasins (7-21, 3-15 SSC) hit just .147 on the attack as the Fighting Knights (25-4, 16-2) finished off the season sweep of the Mocs.
Lena Bondar tallied 10 kills in the match and Ali Travis recorded nine of her own, but Southern was unable to overcome a Lynn squad that hit .300 and got 16 kills from Sonja Udovcic and 11 from Victoria Macaluso.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After snagging a 3-0 lead in the first set, the Mocs fell victim to an 8-0 run by Lynn and were never really able to recover. The Fighting Knights led 17-8 and Florida Southern mounted a small 6-2 run to pull within five (19-14) on a Haley Williams service ace. But it would be all the closer that Southern could get as Lynn took a 25-20 first-set win.
- Florida Southern again took the first lead in the second set, but Lynn again responded with three-straight points to make it 3-1 in the early stages. Leading by just one (12-11) midway through the set, the Fighting Knights ripped off nine of the next 11 points to take a commanding 21-13 lead. Despite a late rally attempt by the Mocs, who pulled within three (23-20), Lynn was able to seal the set on a kill from Lauren Odom and a ball-handling error on Southern to win 25-21.
- It looked as if Florida Southern might send it to a fourth set when the Mocs raced out to a 10-4 lead in the early stages of the third set. With a four-point lead (16-12), the Mocs went cold as Lynn scored five in a row to take a 17-16 lead. With the scored tied at 21-21, the Fighting Knights slammed the door shut with a match-ending 4-0 run and another 25-21 set victory.
- Lynn finished with an 8-4 advantage in blocks and had four players with at least eight digs. Florida Southern served well, recording seven aces and committing just three errors.
