FSC Men's Soccer Endures 4-2 Loss at No. 20 Spring Hill

MOBILE, ALA. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer team (0-1-1) rallied from an early deficit, yet still fell to No. 20 Spring Hill College 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Host Badgers are now 1-0 on the nascent season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mocs played well early, earning a corner kick just minutes into the contest.
  • Christoph Gums managed his first shot on goal at the 4:38 mark. He would take two in the day, both on goal.
  • Spring Hill got their attack in gear, scoring back-to-back goals to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • In the 42nd minute, Southern had a strong scoring opportunity nullified by an offside call.
  • Early in the second stanza, Alberto Diaz had a shot on goal saved, which lead to a counter attack from SHC. The Badgers slipped the ball past Philip Faderl to lead 3-0.
  • Minutes later, The Mocs put together a calculated attack, culminating at the 58:07 mark, as Julian Jordan-Canosa scored his first goal of the season, off an assist from Martin Wall.
  • At 62:20, SHC netted their fourth goal of the game.
  • With seven minutes remaining in regulation, Gums found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, unassisted.
  • The goal was the tenth career score for Gums while playing for the Mocs.
  • FSC continued to push forward, late in the game as Jacob Ling-Vannerus placed a header on goal, but was thwarted by the SHC keeper.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • SHC took more total shots during the game (13-10), though FSC put more on target (9-6).
  • FSC had several sustained possessions in the offensive zone, culminating in six corner kicks.
  • Another physical game, FSC committed 12 fouls, while SHC committed 10.
  • Spring Hill was booked four times with yellow cards, with only Henry Phillips taking a yellow for FSC.
  • Faderl faced 13 shots during the game, making two saves.
