HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
- UIndy jumped out quickly, building a 2-0 lead over the first eight minutes.
- From there, Florida Southern went on a 4-0 run, sparked by a goal from sophomore attack Lizzy Lynch, who took a feed from senior attack Sarah Grady. A minute later, senior midfielder Riley Bannatyne scored back-to-back goals, followed by an unassisted strike from sophomore middie Brenna Smith, with 9:38 to play in the half.
- From there, the Greyhounds closed out the half with a 5-0 run, taking a 7-4 lead into intermission.
2nd Half
- As the second half started, the Mocs came alive.
- Smith scored her second goal of the game, barely four minutes into the half. Junior midfielder Maliah Benedetto followed, as did senior attack Grace Glinecki, and very quickly, the score was tied at 7-7.
- But the Mocs weren't quite finished. Smith and Bannatyne scored again, and the Mocs led 9-7 with 20:57 to play.
- UIndy score to stem the FSC run, at 17:37, making the score 9-8.
- However, the Mocs continued to press the attack, as Grady scored an unassisted goal, followed by a free position goal from senior midfielder Catherine DeKorte. The Mocs had seized control of the game, and led 11-8 with 12:30 to play in regulation.
- The Greyhounds responded with a single tally, before the Mocs struck again.
- Smith scored her fourth goal of the game, followed by the first goal of the year from senior attack Julia Couch, and the Mocs led 13-9 with just 8:18 to play.
- However, from there, it was all UIndy. Three straight goals trimmed the FSC lead to just one, at 13-12, with 3:22 remaining. Southern's Bannatyne scored her fourth goal of the game with 2:20 remaining, pushing the lead back to two, 14-12.
- UIndy's Destine Katz would score with 1:25 remaining, setting up a bizarre final 90 seconds of regulation.
- UIndy gained possession on the draw, and pushed the tempo. They were able to score what would have been the game-tying goal with 42 seconds remaining, only to have the goal disallowed by the officials.
- Southern would take possession, and eventually turn the ball over with six seconds remaining. UIndy managed to score as time expired, sending the game into overtime.
