Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — After three consecutive 3-2 victories, Florida Southern College's volleyball team rolled into Daytona looking to make it four in a row at the expense of Embry-Riddle University.
Those hopes were dashed on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles handed the Mocs a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-18) defeat in Sunshine State Conference action at the ICI Center.
Mackenzie Petermann led the Moccasins (9-6, 6-5) with nine kills and six digs, while
Tierra Porter added seven kills.
Florida Southern is alone in fifth in the SSC standings, while Embry-RIddle stayed in third with an 8-3 SSC mark and a 16-3 overall record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set: Embry-Riddle 25, Florida Southern 13
Florida Southern got out to a quick start with a 3-1 lead, but Embry-Riddle then won 24 of the next 34 points to take an early 1-0 lead. Porter led the Mocs with three kills in the set, while
Ali Travis added two.
Second Set: Embry-Riddle 25, Florida Southern 20
The Mocs never led in the set, but battled throughout. Florida Southern rallied from a 20-12 deficit to make it 23-20 before the Eagles closed the second set out with back-to-back points. Porter and Travis each had three kills apiece, but Petermann led the attack with four kills.
Third Set: Embry-Riddle 25-18
Florida Southern kept it close early, but Embry-Riddle proved to be too much as the Eagles closed out the first of two meetings between the two teams this year. The Mocs will welcome the Eagles to George Jenkins Field House in November to complete their season series.
