INNISBROOK, Fla. - After day one of the Copperhead Championship, the Florida Southern men's golf team is currently sitting in seventh place against a stacked field of 17 teams, including seven Sunshine State Conference competitors. The men rolled through the first 36 holes with a total combined score of 586 (+8).
True freshman
Clay Tucker led the way for the Mocs with a strong opening round of even par, 71, shooting 2-under on the front nine. He followed it up with a solid 3-over, 74 on the second 18 to land himself in a tie for 12th, right in the mix for the individual title going into the last 18 holes of play.
The next finisher for the men was redshirt sophomore
Adam Alvarez. The Polk County native posted an excellent first round of 71 (E), followed by a solid second round of 75 (+4) to finish the day in a tie for 18th. Only a few strokes back was senior
Sam Rogers, in a tie for 18th. Rogers struggled a bit in the first round shooting 76 (+5), however, he rallied in the second round with a 72 (+1) to move up an astounding 16 places in one round.
Closing out the top 5 was sophomore
Noah Kumar and senior
Johnny Tucker. Kumar posted a combined score of 149 (+7) to finish the day in a tie for 37th. While Tucker was only a few strokes back with a score of 152 (+10) landing him in a tie for 54th.
Play resumes with a shotgun start at 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 19, for the third and final round of play.
