INNISBROOK, Fla. - The Florida Southern men's golf team moved up two places in the final round of competition at the Copperhead Championship to finish in 5th overall.
The Mocs shot rounds of 294, 292, and 293 to finish with a total combined score 879. They beat some key conference competitors on their way to a fifth place finish, including Nova Southeastern (885), Lynn (893), Tampa (906), and Florida Tech (931).
The key for the Mocs was a very tight point spread as the top four men were all within three strokes of each other. Leading the way for the Mocs was freshman
Clay Tucker, shooting 71 (E) in round 1, and 74 (+3) in rounds 2 and 3 for a total combined score of 219 (+6). Tucker's consistency earned him a 13th place finish in a loaded field that included many of the best golfers in the region.
Just one stroke back, in a tie for 18th, was redshirt sophomore
Adam Alvarez with a total combined score of 220 (+7). Close behind was sophomore
Noah Kumar and senior
Sam Rogers, both posting a score of 221 (+8). Kumar led the Mocs in the final round, shooting 1-over 72. The performance vaulted him 11 spots in the standings, to finish in a tie with Rogers for 26th place.
