DAVIE Fla. - The Florida Southern men's golf team took to the Grand Oaks Golf Course today for the third and final round of the Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern in Davie, Florida. The men finished the competition in an impressive fourth place finish with a combined score of 852, for their best finish of the season thus far.
The tournament pitted the Mocs against eight of the other ten Sunshine State teams. The men beat all but two SSC teams competing, including Nova Southeastern (862), Tampa (867), Palm Beach Atlantic (861), Rollins (882), Florida Tech (885), and Embry-Riddle (898).
"As a team we improved 43 shots from last week, so that's a positive, beating some key conference and regional opponents along the way," noted FSC head coach Lee White.
A stellar performance from freshman
Noah Kumar paved the way for the men as he lit up the par 71 course for the second day in a row. After shooting a career low of 67 (-4) strokes in round one, followed by a very solid second round of 74 (+3), Kumar found himself sitting in a tie for eleventh, nearly 10 strokes off the leader. However, Kumar rallied in the last round for another under par performance and new career low of 66 (-5) strokes, to finish the tournament in a career high 3rd place, moving up 8 positions in just one round. His total combined score was 207, an incredible 6 strokes under par. Coach White had high praises for Kumar after the tournament.
"Really proud of and happy for Noah on his final round 66 / 3rd place finish individually, his best as a Moc," stated Coach White.
Adam Alvarez was the next moc with a combined score of 213, which tied him for 15th place overall. He was followed closely by
Sam Rogers, who posted a combined score of 217, after improving each round of the tournament (74, 72, 71).
