Women's Volleyball Loses On The Road Against Nova Southeastern

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Florida Southern College volleyball team lost their last road game of the regular season to Nova Southeastern in a Sunshine State Conference matchup on Thursday night with a score of 0-3 (15-25, 12-25, 23-25).
 
With the loss, the Mocs move to 13-12 overall and 9-9 in SSC play. The Sharks improve to 22-4 on the year and 14-3 in the conference.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Set | FSC found themselves down early with a 0-9 start. After a timeout, the Mocs capitalized on mistakes by the Sharks to narrow the deficit. Tierra Porter had three kills to bring the score to 9-19. Mackenzie Petermann helped spark a 6-2 run, with Emily Crescenzi in for a kill. Despite the late push, the Mocs were unable to hold on as the Sharks took set one 25-15.  
 
2nd Set | The Mocs had early kills by Petermann, Porter, with Emma Shaddix adding to the score. The Sharks garnered another big lead halfway through the set, but the Mocs fought hard to stay close. Zoe Lowe tallied a kill to bring the score 10-18. A late point by Jana Gilic was the last point for the Mocs, as they lost set two 25-12.
 
3rd Set | Florida Southern had a service ace by Cassidy Markel to start the set, as Porter provided points for a 5-4 start. The Mocs kept a 12-10 lead after a kill by Shaddix and continued to have success in attacking pieces. The Sharks were unable to tame a 5-2 rally by Florida Southern with kills by Porter, Petermann, and great defensive stops by Crescenzi. A timeout by Nova with the Mocs up by four sparked a 21-21 tie, before Ali Travis nailed a kill for the slight lead. Despite a Petermann kill, the Mocs were down 24-23 as they took a timeout. An attack error sealed the Sharks match win in a heart-breaking third set loss 25-23.

  • Porter led the Mocs in kills with nine on the night.
  • Attack errors were costly for the Mocs with 26 in the match.  
  • Markel led the team in assists for a second consecutive game with 23, as libero, Beatrice Formilan added one.
  • Formilan led the Mocs in digs with 12 followed by Carron with 5.
UP NEXT
The Mocs return home for the last two games of the regular season. Florida Southern will host Embry-Riddle next Friday, set for a 7:00 PM start, with Rollins the next day for Senior Day.
