MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team placed second among four teams at the Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida Tech this weekend.
Florida Southern had 1271 points, just missing out from first place to Rollins (1293), as Lynn and Florida Tech finished third and fourth. The Mocs had prelims in the morning, with top athletes moving onto the finals each night. Other competing teams were Rollins College, Florida Tech, and Lynn University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivia Miles took third in the 500 yard freestyle, but rebounded with an impressive win in the 1650 yard (mile) freestyle
- Emily Peck finished first in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, with a second place finish in the 200 yard IM
- Jazzy Hoffmann finished first in the 50 yard freestyle (23.64), with Rachel Cunningham right behind in second
- With her second win of the night, Hoffmann took home first in the 100 yard freestyle
- Teagan Michalek had a third place finish in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke
- For the 200 yard butterfly, Allie Brinton took home third
- A team of Michalek, Peck, Brinton, and Hoffmann finished third in the 400 yard medley
- Kennidi TenEyck joined Michalek, Peck, and Hoffmann to take second in the 200 yard medley
- In a close finish for the 200 yard freestyle, Erin McCann and Maja Eriksson just missed out of first, but finished second and third respectively
- In the 400 freestyle relay, Morgan Misenar, Cunningham, Eriksson, and Hoffmann finished second as Hoffmann had a 51 second last 100 to overtake Florida Tech in the last leg
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hoffmann and Peck led the women's team with two event wins each, as Miles took home the mile
- Miles' time in the 500 free (5:02.44) and 1650 free (17:10.78), Hoffmann time in the 50 free (23.64) and 100 free (51.08), Cunningham's 50 free time (23.86), and Peck's 2:16.68 in the 200 breast are all good for the women to be in consideration for NCAA qualifications for their respective events

st in the last few meets before conference and NCAA competition.
