Women's Swim Team Battle Rain In Home Opener

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team battled rain throughout the meet in the home opener against Indian River State College Friday afternoon.
 
Despite the rain, the Mocs were able to finish with four event wins and go up against a very good Pioneer swim team. The Pioneers won the team score, 116-89, but both teams continued to cheer their student-athletes in an exciting meet at Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A close battle in the 400 yard medley relay saw the Mocs finish second with a team of Teagan Michalek, Emily Peck, Allie Brinton, and Jazzy Hoffmann
  • Olivia Miles had a great showing in the 1650 yard freestyle to finish first by 25 seconds
  • In the 200 yard freestyle, Maja Eriksson finished second in a nail-biting event
  • Hoffmann finished first in the 50 yard freestyle, with Rachel Cunningham in third
  • For her second win of the meet, Miles finished first in the 400 yard IM, with Peck in third
  • Brinton and Janie Davis finished second and third in a close finish in the 100 yard butterfly
  • Hoffmann narrowly missed the first place spot in the 100 yard freestyle to finish second
  • Michalek had a great second place finish in a close 100 yard backstroke event
  • In the 500 yard freestyle, Miles finished second
  • Peck had an event win in the 100 yard breaststroke, with Alizee Pelletier in third
  • The Mocs had teams finish second and third in the 400 yard freestyle relay
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Miles time of 4:33.73 in the 400 IM is good for the seventh best time in school history
  • With a time of 17:32.88, Miles is good for second among NCAA Division II student-athletes in the 1650 freestyle so far this season, sixth all-time in FSC history
  • Three Mocs had at least one event win, with Miles leading the team with two event wins
 
UP NEXT
The Mocs will be on the road to participate in the Panther Invitational November 19-21 hosted by Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida.
